Unit 10 Engaging with and audience in an creative media production

12/09/17 Stanmore creative

Today we got together with the other media class and we have been put together. The lesson that we were having, was a double lesson, the first lesson we were talking about, hard and soft skills as a group. After we discussed this, we spoke about what each other's weaknesses and strengths are and how we were going to overcome our weaknesses. In the next lesson, we had to make an elevator pitch. This was a pitch where if we were explaining our pitch in an elevator from the first floor, by the time we reach the top, we are finished with our pitch. The pitch was to explain a logo that we made and to explain what it means. Our logo, that we made, included a movie camera projecting our name because we had to make a logo for our class. Stanmore Creatives is the name of what we had to include. We decided to use a movie camera and a game controller because it shows what we do in our logo, so when people look at our logo, they know what we specialize in.

After we had to make a personal profile to sell our self to the clients, this is so that they can look at it and see what services we are trying to provide for them. We had the choice to do it digitally or to draw it out on paper. I decided to draw it out on paper. I drew things that show what I do, for example, construct and Adobe Animate. I also added person details so that this meant that if someone saw my personal profile and wanted me to do something for them, they would be able to contact me since my email and my number is on it.

From looking at these techniques that these people have used

10/10/17  Barber Shop

Today there was another client that came in and he wanted to promote his barber shop by making a website and by posting things on their Instagram page. As a big group, we split up in smaller separate groups. I'm on my own for this section and I'm doing a small animation that they can add to their website. I have 2 clients at the moment, so I decided to make a schedule so that I can plan to do both.

Also, I need to get in contact with the client to ask him how long I will have to animate, because he also wants me to animate other barbers, including himself. I was unable to do this because there were other students that went to the barber shop, but they didn't take pictures of all the barbers.

Making Leaflet - Transglobal Nexus

My first client is a business teacher in the college and he wanted us to help him make a leaflet for him. The task is to make an A5 double sided leaflet and it is to persuade teachers to go on holiday together for breaks such as the half-term, summer breaks, and Easter. Text and pictures are provided and we just have to layout it out, I was assigned this task to one other person.

At the start of the brief I decided to do some secondary research by looking at leaflets online, the reason why I did this was that I have some knowledge about different techniques and different ways to make a leaflet. Also, this gave me an Idea of what I could do since there are a lot of holiday leaflets and the leaflet that I was doing was aimed at teachers and also to get them to go on holiday.

Before I started making the leaflet, I did some research on other leaflets aimed at teachers as that is my target audience I identified. The reason why I did this is that I wanted to see other companies have done and to also get inspiration for my own ideas. The thing that makes this leaflet really good is that it is colorful and they have used a variety of colors. Despite this, the colors that they used were very limited to suit the older demographic. All the main points that the leaflet tries to get across are in bold or bigger text. Other things that make this a really good inspiration point is that they didn't overload it with text and they put short bullet points to get their point across quicker and without making it boring.

Some of the things that I will take into consideration when making my own leaflet that I may use, to Have to picture nice and big in the middle so that It looks attractive. Another thing is to keep it short because the leaflet I'm doing, is about going on holiday and because it is for teachers I don't want it to be tedious or really long for them to read. Another this is to add color to all the pages to make it not seem bland and boring as well as using a variety of colors. I like the way how they started one of the points of with a rhetorical question and maybe I could use that to get peoples attention.

Some of the great traits from this leaflet are the main title; it's at the top, It's big and they use different fonts to make it look more interesting whilst maintaining a professional look. Also, they don't overuse effects and they use one for the title to make it more appealing. They also use the slogan "We want to meet you!" which is really similar to Lord Kitchener's poster "We need you", this is really persuasive. I like the colors that were used; they used 2 colors that contrast each other really well, I think it works well that they used a primary color and a secondary color to contrast it, The primary color blue is dark and the secondary color orange is bright. They put the most important facts Big and bold at the top and as it goes down the list they get smaller.

I think the great things that I have learned from these leaflets that I can implement into my own work is defiantly color and to have short but snappy sentences meaning short sentences that explain the point instead of a long paragraph. Another thing is that for the titles of the countries I could have them in bold to highlight the main places advertised. Finally, I think that I can also include having the pictures in the middle and big so that the advertisement is big and visible in the middle.

Production - Transglobal Nexus

 I have kept in contact with him by phoning him, messaging and also email. After this, he had some personal issues and he said he will not be able to be in college for 2 weeks meaning that the brief is now on hold until he comes back since he wanted to have a discussion before we start. As well as that, we have not also received the information to make the leaflet (Text and pictures). I have decided that I would make a rough sketch so that I can get an idea of what the layout would look like.

There is too much text and therefore the text is very small.
I made the leaflet, but there is a small problem, this was that there was a lot of text. Another, the problem is communication because I haven't been able to see him and whenever I try to contact the client, he doesn't always answer and that has made communication really hard between us. Before I started the job, I wanted I to speak to him to ask him about the text, because there is so much. When placing all the text it was a struggle and it doesn't look nice, because the text is too small to fit on the page and the pictures are as well, so it looks boring.

The target audience is really wide since it is aimed at teachers, therefore, the age gap is roughly 20-80. Its also aimed at the teachers that don't go out that much, this leaflet is an opportunity for them to have a good time and to have fun with there peers since it is for teachers only, as well as this a teacher can be stressing job and this also offers the chance for them to escape reality for a while so that they can be stress free.

Evaluation - Transglobal Nexus

I think the leaflet didn't turn out that well since when I gave the final piece it was quite plain. It didn't really look nice on the other hand, the layout of the text and the pictures was okay as it was balanced and spaced out. A problem that I had is that there was a lot of text and I didn't know what to take out, therefore, I put all the text in and the problem is that there was too much. So when it comes to the audience I don't think it's attractive to the target audience that I identified; it's too plain, and the majority is just black and white because of the text. One thing that I feel relates the identified audience that makes leaflets really attractive is the short snappy sentences, the colors on the page and nice design. The leaflet that I had made had none of that. I think that this applies to all audiences because it shows the effort put into it.

I feel that I have improved my understandings of creative media since I have learned how to make a leaflet and to make it look attractive. One of my soft skills that haven't been good for this brief is communication with the client. Something like this is really important because I could have made some important changes. For example, linking back to my research for my target audience leaflets are more attractive with less text, and the client had so much text.

Looking throughout this whole project I feel that I could have kept more in contact with my work peer and also my client. Ways that I could have done this would have been to regularly arrange meetings within the college week, every time we make changes or updates to the product to message the client and get feedback on that update. A mix of both would have been really good because we can get feedback to see what changes we can make to improve the final product.

When the feedback was handed out I wasn't in and therefore Ferdous did it for both of us. I felt like even though I did communicate with the client it could have been a lot more regular and we completed the task but it was boring and plain.

Things that I have learned from this brief is how important other things are such as text images and the color. Also, I realize that communication is the most important thing out of everything. Another thing that I could have done was suggest if he had any ideas for designs.

Here is the poster I had to change it since it was in publisher and I couldn't embed it but I can use screenshots to show what it looked like in publisher.

My Final Evaluation

The product that we made was not done to a level that I was happy with as I thought that it could have been a lot better in many ways. It was really plain it black and white except for the pictures that were colorful. The client was happy with the work that we gave him and he didn't have any problems.

Kohlico

Today we had a client that came in and they were representing Ko-Lee noodles and also Eazy Pop (popcorn) these are quite big brands. They told us that they wanted to raise awareness for their product and to try and get their product known on social media. They came to the college because they have had previous help from the college, the product they had help, was with Bang-Bang Noodles. They had lots of products but they wanted to promote their most known ones. The two representatives gave our group a handout and this showed all the products that they had. They told us that they had a video on YouTube and I decided to view it.

FrontRunnerz

09/01/18
Today I joined a brief that was already midway through the process of making a game. The game that the group is making is a motorcycle game. The point of this arcade type of game is to make sure to dodge the incoming cars and to keeping going as fast as you can go. A lot of the assets for the game has been made such as; bikes, trees, and characters. My job to assist in the making of the game is to code the menu. I'm thinking of having the start, garage, options and Exit buttons. This gives the player the option to start or to go the garage to change customization's, the thing is I don't know what will happen with the options because that means that there will have to be another page made for it. When I joined the group we had a group meeting to discuss what everyone was going to do and what they had already done. We talked about the assets that are done and the trees are done and the things that were needed to be done were, the terrain, the coding and not all the vehicles.

I think the age group that this is aimed at is anyone that is a child and beyond. I think that the target audience is aimed at younger people but will attract people who have an interest in motorcycles and like these type of arcade games.

Coding

I looked at a Youtube tutorial and it showed me how to spawn objects randomly but the problem was that you had to press a button to spawn it. When I did this at home I needed some C++ scripts made for the vehicles so that I could them both together for it to work. I had to make a transparent box and that decided where the cars would spawn. I had to then write about the axis this decides how it spawns. One problem I did was that I didn't write about the Y and Z axis because I didn't want them to move, but this lead to the problem of have no coordinates for the Y and Z making the code not valid so I have to make changes to make it work.

Here is the code I have now

using System.Collections;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using UnityEngine;

public class SpawnObject : MonoBehaviour {
{
    public GameObject spawnrandomcars;

    public Vector3 center;
    public Vector3 size;

    // Use this for initialization
    void Start () {
        spawncar();
}
// Update is called once per frame
void Update () {
        FindObjectOfType (Input.GetKey(KeyCode.Q))
            spawncar();

    }

    public void spawncar()
    {
        Vector3 pos = center + new Vector3(Random.Range(-size.x / 2, size.x / 2)

        Instantiate(spawnrandomcars, pos, Quaternion.identity);
    }

    void OnDrawGizmosSelected()
    {
        Gizmos.color = new Color(1, 0, 0, 0.5f);
        Gizmos.DrawCube(center, size)
    }
